Expert Nurse Consultant and Advocate

About Kristen Avant, BSN, RN: Owner of Granddaughter, A Piece Of Mind LLC
What I do is different from what most people are used to in healthcare—and I want to explain why that matters.
I am not employed by a facility. I am not working for an agency. I work for you.
That means my loyalty is not divided. I don’t have to protect a company, a reputation, or a job. I don’t have to soften what I see or hold back concerns to keep the peace. My only responsibility is to your loved one and to you.
After more than ten years in healthcare, especially in long-term and geriatric care, I’ve seen what families don’t always get to see. I’ve seen things missed. I’ve seen concerns overlooked. And I’ve seen how quickly small issues can turn into serious problems when no one is consistently watching.
And the truth is—most people providing care are not bad people. But they are often limited. They are overworked, understaffed, or bound by what they are allowed to say. They may notice something, but they cannot always communicate it fully or advocate the way a family would expect.
That’s where I come in.
I am trained to look deeper. I assess what’s happening, what’s not happening, and what could become a problem. I don’t just observe—I identify risks early, before they turn into hospitalizations, injuries, or decline.
When I recommend something, it’s not guesswork. It’s based on years of clinical experience, pattern recognition, and seeing how these situations play out when they’re not addressed.
So when families ask about my pricing, I always want them to understand—this is not just a visit or a service.
This is oversight.
This is prevention.
This is peace of mind.
You’re not paying for someone to check in. You’re investing in someone who knows exactly what to look for, has no reason to hold back, and is committed to protecting your loved one’s safety and quality of care.
And when you look at it that way, the real question becomes:
What is the cost of not having someone like that in place?
Because I’ve seen what happens when no one is watching closely—and that’s exactly why I do what I do.
My Services

Assurance Consultation
My Assurance Consultation is a comprehensive, in-person assessment designed to give you a clear, unbiased understanding of your loved one’s current condition and care. I evaluate their physical status, environment, safety, and overall quality of care—paying close attention to details that are often overlooked. With over 10 years of geriatric nursing experience, I know exactly where to look for early signs of decline, unmet needs, or potential neglect. After the visit, I provide a personalized set of recommendations outlining what I found, what needs to be addressed, and the next steps you can take to ensure your loved one is safe and properly cared for.

Advocate Visits & Ongoing Oversight
I provide ongoing, in-person oversight to ensure your loved one is receiving the level of care they deserve. During advocate visits, I assess their condition, observe staff interactions, and address any concerns directly with the care team—asking the right questions and making sure nothing is overlooked or minimized. I can also attend care plan meetings at facilities alongside you or on your behalf to advocate effectively and ensure all aspects of care are being addressed. If needed, I will prepare a structured document for you to bring into the meeting, so you feel confident, informed, and fully equipped to speak up for your loved one.

Specialized Care Planning & Caregiver Support
Customized plans focused on skin integrity and pressure injury prevention, along with caregiver education and structured systems to reduce risk and improve daily care practices. This service is best suited for individuals who are bedridden, have limited mobility, or are at high risk for pressure injuries due to prolonged positioning or chronic health conditions.
